A speckle vase and bouquet, part of a collection of paintings featuring hand-painted wooden flowers and a contemporary way of approaching traditional still-life painting.

For this collection,  painting onto laser-cut wood is explored. The process is cyclical and considered, and draws directly from my own sketches. Each wooden flower is sketched digitally and then refined down into a vector illustration before being laser-cut locally in Cornwall.

40.5 x 50cm framed. Frame colour is Arsenic from Farrow & Ball.

I am interested in the effect of isolation and suspension that a traditional still life is given by picking out and painting the flora and then framing this inside its own box frame. These works are inspired by the traditions of folk art re-interpreted for a contemporary audience.
